Book Recommendation – Their Surprise Second Chance by Lindi Peterson

Book Description:

Could the past she kept hidden…

Renew an unexpected love?

After her adult son survives a plane crash, Nicole St. John believes the one person who can help him heal is his pilot father—who doesn’t know the twenty-four-year-old exists. Now Adam Hawk will do anything to support his son, even spend time with the woman who kept him a secret. But as old feelings resurface, can Adam convince Nicole she’s the final piece in their new family?

Narelle’s Thoughts:

I enjoyed reading Their Surprise Second Chance, set in a small town in Tennessee. Twenty five years earlier, when Nicole was a teen in high school, she’d had a big crush on her childhood friend, Adam. At the time Adam was in a relationship with Rebecca, his future wife. Adam broke up with Rebecca for a few short weeks, which was long enough for him to notice Nicole, and for them to make joint decisions that led to a secret pregnancy. Adam reunited with Rebecca. Nicole left town, carrying Adam’s rejection and the secret of Gavin’s paternity for the next twenty-four years.

The secret baby and past love triangle story set up creates complex family dynamics for when Gavin learns about his father and other family members. It’s a hot mess situation and a unique twist on the secret baby trope. Nicole believes God has abandoned her, and fears losing her son when the secret is revealed. Adam has his own issues and regrets regarding past decisions.

Trust and forgiveness are themes that are explored in the story as Nicole and Adam consider if they could have a second chance at love. I appreciated how the story touched on how Adam’s family were impacted by Nicole’s decision to hide Gavin’s existence. I recommend Their Surprise Second Chance to contemporary romance readers who like reunion romances combined with the secret baby trope that leads to complicated family relationships, and a strong faith element underpinning the story.

Many thanks to the author for the advanced reader copy.
