Book Recommendation – Small Town Harmony by Milla Holt

Book Description:

She chased her dream. Now her marriage is paying the price.

Ezra Falconer always took the lead—onstage with his brothers’ Christian band, and at home with his quiet, dependable wife, Martha. But everything changed when Martha found her voice. Dropping 100 pounds, she ditched her frumpy style and emerged as the sultry, powerhouse star known as “Morgan.”

Now her music career is soaring. Ezra’s is stalling. And the marriage they once relied on is quietly burning down behind the scenes.

When they’re asked to record a charity duet, the studio becomes a battleground of buried resentment and lingering love, forcing them to face the growing silence between them. How can they rediscover harmony while they’re singing in different keys?

Narelle’s Thoughts:

I enjoyed reading Small Town Harmony, the second book in Milla Holt’s Rhapsody of Grace series set in England. Ezra and Martha have been married for eight years and their marriage is in trouble. Ezra is a Christian musician, singer and songwriter who is at a crossroads in his career because his recent albums haven’t sold well. His wife, Martha, has been touring for three years and building her Morgan pop star persona. Martha is more famous, more successful and wealthier than Ezra.

The story opens with Ezra giving his best man’s speech at his brother’s wedding. Ezra feels like a hypocrite because his wife has no showed at the wedding, their marriage is a train wreck, and it’s nine months since they last met in person.

I loved journeying with Ezra and Martha as they work on restoring their marriage and healing past emotional wounds. Ezra has issues with Martha’s sponsorship and endorsement deals. Martha’s insecurities, made worse by Ezra’s poor judgment, are a stumbling block in their road to reconciliation.

When everything falls apart, they are forced to deal with their emotional baggage and the consequences of unwise decisions. Ezra and Martha’s faith is challenged by their difficult circumstances and the story explores trust, forgiveness, and justice themes.

Ezra and Martha’s romance in their marriage restoration journey is sweet and the realities of celebrity life aren’t sugar coated. I loved the story ending and seeing truth and justice prevail. I recommend Small Town Harmony to contemporary romance readers who like marriage in trouble romances with second chances, celebrity musician characters, women’s fiction themes, and strong faith elements in the story.
