Book Recommendation – A Royal Christmas by Melody Carlson

Book Description:

Adelaide Smith is too busy for fairy tales. She’s been working hard to put herself through law school and now that the end is in sight, she’s determined to stay focused on her goals. Then she receives a letter notifying her that she has been found through a DNA registry to be a direct descendant of King Maximillian V, the ruler of a small Eastern European principality called Montovia. She’s understandably skeptical. This is the stuff of cheesy made-for-TV movies, not real life.

Although the pieces of this surprising family puzzle seem too good to be true, curiosity gets the best of her. At the king’s invitation, Adelaide embarks on a Christmas break trip that is chock-full of surprises, including a charming village, an opulent palace, family mysteries, royal jealousies, a handsome young member of Parliament–and the chance at a real fairy tale romance with a happily-ever-after ending.

Spend this Christmas with bestselling author Melody Carlson as she whisks you away to a royal holiday you’ll never forget!

Narelle’s Thoughts:

I enjoyed reading A Royal Christmas, a charming Christmas novella set in a tiny fictional European country near Austria. Adelaide Smith is an ordinary American girl who was raised by her late mother and never knew her father. Adelaide works in a coffee shop to pay for law school and she’s shocked to receive a letter claiming her father is a king.

I loved journeying with Adelaide to Montovia. There’s palace intrigue surrounding her father’s poor health and everyone wanting to know who will be her father’s successor on the throne. Adelaide forms a beautiful friendship with Anton, a member of parliament from a working class background. The story ending is delightful and satisfying.

I recommend A Royal Christmas to contemporary fiction readers who like fish out of water royalty Christmas novellas in a similar vein to The Princess Bride with mystery, intrigue, romance and a relevant faith element in the story.

  1. I loved this book especially the ending. There is something magical about Christmas in the alpine area with the different customs and traditions. It is great to go to these places in my imagination.
