First Line Friday | At First Spark by Liwen Y. Ho

Today I’m joining in the fun by sharing a book for First Line Friday. The deal is we pick up the nearest book (or in my case, the nearest device with an ebook in it) and quote the first line.

I’m sharing the first line from At First Spark by Liwen Y. Ho. An intriguing opening line, and I’m wondering who this person is?

Darren Spark never imagined that one person could make him feel so happy and sad at all the same time.

At First Spark is a July 2019 new release. Here’s the book description:

He’s a tender-hearted firefighter who’s been burned by love. She’s an optimistic bookstore owner determined to heal his heart. Little do they know how much sacrifice it will take for them to be together.

Firefighter Darren Spark doesn’t think twice about risking it all when it comes to his job, but he’s not about to put his heart on the line for love. He’s accepted the fact that no woman will want him when he can’t promise them a future …until he meets the one who challenges that belief.

Abandoned as a baby, Danica Reed longs to fill in the missing pieces of her past with a family of her own. She’s more than ready to get married and have kids, but she wonders why the perfect man—who’s just as into her and wants the same things—keeps taking one step forward in their relationship, then two steps back.

Darren won’t let himself hope for more; Danica won’t settle for less. But there’s one obstacle they can’t seem to overcome. Will the spark that drew them to each other be enough to keep their love burning or will their short-lived romance go down in flames?

*Please note this book deals sensitively with the topic of male infertility.

Today, I’m currently reading The Spice King by Elizabeth Camden. It’s an excellent story that I highly recommend! I’m just starting chapter 34, so I’ll share from there.

“Gray rarely took the time to read The Washington Post first thing in the morning.”

Hope you have an excellent weekend!!! ?❤?

  5. Well, that one is going on my tbr! Here’s the first line from my current read, Just One Kiss by Courtney Walsh: “Carly Collins hated running late.”

  6. I read the first book in this series, and it was excellent. But I seem to have missed the release of books 2 and 3!

I’m sharing the first line from Underestimating Miss Ceceila by Carolyn Miller on my blog today – it seems to be a popular choice!

I’m currently reading Fatal Strike by DiAnn Mills. Here’s the first line:

Special Agent Leah Riesel scanned the headlines on her phone.

That’s a little underwhelming, but the first chapter includes a shoot-out in a hostage situation, so it ramps up the action quickly.

    Happy reading!

  8. Today on my blog I shared the first line from Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig but I’m currently reading Fragments of Fear by Carrie Stuart Parks so I’ll share the first line from my current chapter (8) here: “Marley was sitting by the door in the living room when Travis returned.” Hope you have a great weekend with plenty of reading time! 🙂
